Music Festival: Jean-Michel Jarre will give the first live concert in virtual reality

On Sunday June 21, to celebrate the Fête de la Musique, the French musician will give a concert from his recording studio broadcast around the world in virtual reality for total immersion. It is the first time that this type of experience will be carried out live.

Two months ago, in full confinement, the rapper Travis Scott gathered nearly 30 million “spectators” for a virtual concert given on the online game Fortnite. A performance that gave ideas to other artists and musicians, and on Sunday, Jean-Michel Jarre will perform “virtually” across the Planet for the Fête de la musique.

Today aged 71, the French musician has always seen things big, even very big, and we remember that he had attracted 1.5 million spectators in Houston, or 800,000 in Lyon. Always at the forefront of technology in the creation and dissemination , he chose to join the start-up French Vrroom  to create the first concert in virtual reality . It is not Jean-Michel Jarre who will be on keyboards and machines, but his avatar .

A first for a live event

On Sunday June 21, from 9 pm, the show ”  Alone Together ” will be broadcast simultaneously live on all digital platforms , whether it is a smartphone , a tablet or a smartphone. But the big news is the possibility of participating in the concert  via your personal avatar with a virtual reality headset , whether with an Oculus Rift , HTC Vive or even a Valve Index. Until now, this type of experience has been offered offline, as was the case for Travis Scott.

Headphones on, the spectator can then chat with Jean-Michel Jarre, but also browse his recording studio. For those who do not have a virtual reality headset, it will be possible to follow the concert from their computer on YouTube , Facebook , by downloading the VRChat application on Steam, Oculus
