Why did I list these words? I will tell you.

In the year of 2017 I read seventeen books, most of them by Gabriel García Marquez. As I staggering carried on my reading I came across some words which drew my attention due to their singularity in pronunciation. In my indefatigable quest for perfect pronunciation, I thoroughly looked up every single one of them and now I can bring them to you off a silver platter.

What follows is for the American English Language Lovers. If you are not a part of that group, do not fret. You will survive and live very well and happily ever after without it.

Look at this:

  • The words I listed look like very simple words, but are they, really?
  • No, they are certainly not! These are all very tricky words and you probably think you know how to pronounce them.
  • How do you pronounce, for example, “mischievous”?
  • Well, you probably stressed the SECOND syllable, did you not?
