TCL unveils three premium smartphones at low prices

A specialist in televisions, TCL is seriously tackling the smartphone market with three models under 500 euros, all very well equipped. Review of details.

TCL is more known for its televisions than its ranges of mobiles and yet it is it which owns Alcatel and Blackberry. In any case, it seeks to place itself under its own brand in this sector. Thus, it was under its own name that TCL had unveiled the Plex , a very well equipped model at a contained price, at the IFA in Berlin last September. The screen specialist has also made the buzz around his brand by recently presenting an original foldable smartphone concept that unfolds in an accordion. Once again, TCL does it again by now unveiling a range of three mobiles with characteristics close to “premium” models with a very aggressive price. This is the 10 series , with the TCL 10 Pro,5G .

With its price of 499 euros, the 10 Pro clearly seeks to rub shoulders with the Galaxy S range from Samsung and premium models from Huawei, both in terms of its data sheet and its appearance. The mobile has a 6.47 inch screen (1080 x 2340 pixels ) with curved edges which covers up to 93% of its facade. The sensor of fingerprint is located below the surface of the screen.

The powerful Snapdragon 675 from Qualcomm drives it. It is accompanied by 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB for storage, with the possibility of extension to 256 GB via a microSD card. At the front, a 24-megapixel sensor is placed in the form of a drop , in the center at the top edge of the screen. The whole is kept awake by a 4500 mAh battery. On the photo side, TCL has placed four online sensors on the back of the phone. There, a main sensor of 64 megapixels, a wide angle of 16 megapixels designed for shooting in low light , a magnifying zoom and a depth sensor.

In addition to an affordable price, TCL is betting on the quality of its screen and a technical sheet close to high-end smartphones to impose its first series of mobiles. © TCL

The cheapest 5G smartphone on the market

As its name suggests, the TCL 10 5G has a modem compatible with the latest generation of the mobile network. With a price of 399 euros, it certainly becomes  the least expensive 5G smartphone on the market. Its 16 megapixel selfie sensor is a hole positioned on the left of the upper border. The fingerprint sensor is, this time, placed on the back of the mobile. Inside, the smartphone is equipped with a Snapdragon 765G with its integrated 5G modem. It is accompanied by 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB for storage. We find the same photo module on the back with its four sensors. On the screen side, the diagonal reaches, 6.53 inches (1080 x 2340 pixels).

Finally, the TCL 10 L is positioned at the entry level of the series. It takes the dimensions and shape of the 10 5G, again with a 6.53 inch screen. Inside, it’s a Snapdragon 665supported by 6 GB of RAM found. Storage is limited to 64 GB, expandable to 256 GB via a microSD card. On the back, the four modules are slightly less efficient, with a 48-megapixel main sensor, an 8-megapixel wide angle, a 2-megapixel zoom and a 2-megapixel depth sensor. It is a 16 megapixel sensor that is located at the front for selfies. The battery capacity is this time reduced to 4000 mAh. This model will be offered soon at a price of 299 euros. It remains to be seen whether this range, stamped TCL, will manage to find its place in the very competitive environment of Chinese smartphones.
