Adobe buries Flash before time

While Flash will disappear on December 31, Adobe already recommends uninstalling it. It is the end of an era since this technology has accompanied the arrival of online gaming and Internet entertainment.

On December 31, 2020, Flash will join the cemetery of the old Internet tenors , alongside Altavista, Napster, ICQ and other Netscape. Star technology of animation in web pages at the beginning of the 2000s, whether online games or advertisements, Flash has since been overtaken by the more secure HTML5 , WebGL and WebAssembly and especially adopted by all publishers since it must be remembered that Apple has always been against this technology. 10 years ago, Steve Jobs compared Flash to a floppy disk while everyone had gone to the USB key and to the DVD .

Adobe taps Apple, Google, Facebook, Microsoft, and Mozilla to kill ...

For three years, Adobe has taken note of the renunciation of almost all of the publishers for Flash, and at the end of the year, it will no longer be possible to download it. But Adobe even encourages to get rid of it now. In a message posted on its site , the publisher of Acrobat and Photoshop ”  recommends that all users uninstall Flash Player before the end of life  “.

A utility to uninstall Flash properly

User guides are available for uninstalling on Windows or Mac, including the ability to download a small file dedicated to uninstalling all files related to Flash. It is probably the best tool to get rid of it completely.

Adobe says it also will continue to publish regular Flash Player security patches to maintain the compatibility of the operating system and browser , and possibly add features until the end of 2020. Then the editor will remove Flash Player download pages from its site and Flash content will no longer be able to run in Adobe Flash Player after December 31, 2020.
