The course is divided into three main sections.
The first section introduces the basic concepts of HUMINT. You will learn what HUMINT is, why it remains important in intelligence work, and what qualities are required of an effective HUMINT Collector. This section provides the essential background needed for the rest of the course.
The second section covers the first half of structural interrogation techniques. You will learn the basic principles of interrogation, direct questioning methods, questions that should be avoided, elicitation techniques, and the fundamentals of deception detection. This section is designed to help students understand how questioning can be structured, controlled, and adapted depending on the source and the situation.
The third section covers major structural interrogation techniques in more detail. You will learn the principles, psychological mechanisms, strengths, limitations, and legal and ethical boundaries of methods such as Mutt & Jeff, Scenery Change, and False Flag. This section also explores how some of these concepts connect to modern information environments and digital-era influence operations.
