Design of Unreinforced Non-Loadbearing Masonry / Block Walls with a Practical Example as per Australian Standard- AS3700

In this course, I will start with the applications of masonry walls in construction and then I will go through the fundamentals of masonry/block wall design including different support conditions for the wall, how to treat openings in the walls, different design checks (such as wind loading, earthquake and robustness), fire checks as well as calculating bending moment capacity of the walls and finally lateral load capacity of the wall.

Requirements

  • To be familiar with the basics of structural analysis.

In this course, I will start with the applications of masonry walls in construction and then I will go through the fundamentals of masonry/block wall design including different support conditions for the wall, how to treat openings in the walls, different design checks (such as wind loading, earthquake and robustness), fire checks as well as calculating bending moment capacity of the walls and finally lateral load capacity of the wall.

Also, we will go through a practical example and will do all of these checks step by step. This is actually a real-world example of the design that we do in our everyday job.

By the end of this course you will learn about the fundamental and practical design considerations of masonry walls and will be able to design a Non-Loadbearing Masonry Wall similar to what a professional engineer does.
