Requirements

in just 1 day?

When I say 1 day, I’m being very conservative.

If you have all the requirements in place, I risk to say that you may be able to build that even in a shorter period!

Big data size

So you have an idea (and I know you do), one year of raw billing data can range between 50GB to 100GB. For a matter of
comparison, if you were to save the entire Wikipedia in text format, it would be 30GB.

  1. The amount of raw data related to cost and usage is extremely huge.
  2. Manual processes in Excel were nearly impossible due to the data size, forcing summarization that led to the loss of
    critical details.

Third-Party tools

There are many third-party tools out there. Although they have many cool features, getting an existing third-party tools have
their own challenges:

Open source tools

I will not lie to you. There are also good open source options
out there. Just Google it and you will find. I’ve done this already
and I can tell you what going to happen.

Why do you need it after all?

As a FinOps person, you need cost and usage data. And that’s it. You know why. I know I’m talking here to a FinOps
practitioner. Maybe you have already taken your Practitioner Certification. Maybe you took the FOCUS free course or either
took your FOUCS certification.

I will not waste your time giving an exhaustive list of reasons why you need a robust cost reporting. Nevertheless, let me tell you the major ones based on my experience. I’m sure you will relate with some of them.

Teams operating in silos can generate all sort of problems from a cost perspective. Without a robust, automated cost
analysis system, organizations are at risk of losing financial stability, limiting innovation, and falling behind competitors.

  1. They fail to align financial goals with technical operations,
  2. Leading to waste and inefficiency.

That’s why I build it

Not acting was not an option to me. I first built this solution to solve my own real situation.

I explored existing solutions, but they all fell short. Expensive third-party SaaS platforms were out of reach for small teams
or companies without structured FinOps departments.

None of these options offered a simple, cost-effective, and scalable approach that FinOps professionals like me could
deploy themselves—until now.
