This inflatable electric bike fits in a backpack

What is more compact and faster to mount than a foldable bike? An inflatable bike that weighs barely 5 kilos wheels and battery included. Designed by the University of Tokyo, it can be stored in a backpack and inflates in 1 minute.

Better than a scooter or a foldable bicycle , this inflatable electric bicycle is ultralight and can be stored in a bag back . Called Poimo (POrtable and Inflatable MObility), it inflates in one minute with an electric pump, or in a few minutes with a small hand pump. Then just add the wheels, the electric motor, the battery and the controller integrated in the handlebars. Total weight: 5.5 kilos (the inflatable structure itself weighing 2.3 kg ). However, researchers believe that it is still possible to reduce its weight.

In addition to its light weight, the Poimo also reduces the risk of injury in the event of an accident , and is easy to repair. It can be personalized with additional elements and, even if its price is not yet known, should be much cheaper than traditional electric bikes . Aimed at children as well as active urbanites, the bicycle is still in the prototype stage but we hope to see it soon on the streets.
