The electric sports car Cupra el-Born arrives in 2021 with 500 km of autonomy

Cupra, the sports division of Seat which has become a brand in its own right, has just unveiled its very first electric model. An attractive compact sports car that promises generous autonomy and a power of 315 hp.

Unveiled last year at the Geneva auto show by Seat , the el-Born concept found its commercial version in the form of the Cupra el-Born. The Spanish brand from the sports division of Seat will therefore have the exclusivity of this compact five- door model with sporty lines which will also be its first electric car . Based on the MEB platform dedicated to electric vehicles of the Volkswagen group to which Cupra belongs , the el-Born will arrive in dealerships next year.

The body design plays on a muscular style with its front headlights which stretch over the fenders and the hood plunging on a wide openwork grille. The matte paint and copper inserts are the Cupra signature that can also be found in the cabin with bucket seats and a sporty steering wheel on which the drive selector appears. The automaker is announcing a head-up display system with augmented reality that is likely to be the same as that of the Volkswagen ID.3 . Cupra also says it has used recycled materials for the passenger compartment, without specifying which ones.

82 kWh battery

On the engine side, the details are still succinct. We just know that the Cupra el-Born will develop 315 hp and can shoot 0 to 50 km / h in 2.9 seconds. For autonomy, the 82 kWh battery will cover up to 500 km and 30 minutes of fast charge will be enough to restore 260 km.

The Cupra el-Born will be manufactured at the Zwickau plant in Germany where the Volkswagen ID.3 is assembled. Its price is not yet known.
