How to solve the problem of MacBook not loading?

You plug your MacBook to recharge its battery, however, its level remains unchanged? If you encounter this problem then follow our 10 repair tips.

Check the AC adapter, the power cable

Here are the main things to check before determining whether to replace your battery.

1- Is your MacBook properly plugged into the electrical outlet? Is your MagSafe connector properly inserted in the port dedicated to it?

2- Each Apple Notebook Adapter consists of two parts, the square power supply and a removable plug that connects to a wall outlet or multiple.

Is this adapter properly connected? Separate the two parts and put them back together.

3- Have you tried using another wall outlet?

4- Is your power cable in good condition or is its insulative enclosure damaged?

Does the cord look burned? If it is, then try another adapter.

5- Also check that there is no dust in the MagSafe output of your Mac. This may prevent the MagSafe adapter from establishing a connection and thus properly charging your computer.

6- MacOs has a feature that lets you know the status of your battery.

From your Mac, click on the battery icon at the top right of the menu bar while holding down the Option (alt) key.

It will be labelled Normal, Replace Soon, Replace Now, or check the battery, you may need to replace it.

Check the settings

If your MacBook constantly loses its charge, then you must check that the settings of your computer (brightness, standby) do not exhaust your battery.

Go to System Preferences and select Energy Saver. Make sure that the sliders for both Computer Standby After and Screen Saver After are not dragged all the way to the right, set to Never.

If this is the case, then reset them by clicking Restore Defaults, bottom right.

Apple solutions

Apple has three recommendations for batteries that no longer charge.

  • Reset the battery. This advice is addressed to Mac owners including the removable battery. It must be removed to reinsert it, this way you will be assured that it is properly installed.
  • Reset the SMC (System Management Controller), it supports the basic features of your Mac like the answer to the use of the power button or the backlight of the keyboard, etc. Resetting it can help solve battery and power problems.
  • If resetting the SMC does not work, Apple recommends bringing your Mac to an  Apple Store or contacting AppleCare. If your Mac is not covered by Apple’s warranty, you may consider replacing the battery.

How to reset the SMC?

If you want to reset the SMC, here are the steps to follow on a new MacBook (with an immovable battery).

To achieve this, turn off your Mac, press Shift  +  Ctrl +  alt (left) and  On /Off simultaneously.

Hold down these buttons for 4 seconds, then release them at the same time. Finally, turn on your Mac again.

If you would like to know more about resetting the SMC, go to the Apple support page.
