How to identify the model of an iPhone

he iPhones follow each other and are so similar that even the most sophisticated users have trouble identifying them.

In this tutorial, we give you three techniques to help you recognize an iPhone.

You can find his version by the model number on his back, the identifier specified in the settings or an element of its design.

Identify your iPhone with its model number.

The best way to identify an iPhone is to refer to its model number. It appears on the back of the device and is preceded by the letter A.

Once the number is found, refer to the list given below to determine which model you have.

Identify your iPhone with the reference number

The reference number gives more details about the model you have, including color and storage capacity. It is located in the settings of your smartphone.

To access it, go to Settings → General → Information.

Next to Model, you will see an alphanumeric code beginning with the letter M or N.

The design of your iPhone

If, for whatever reason, you do not find any number, know that you can identify your iPhone with its design.

iPhone

The iPhone 1 st generation is relatively easy to recognize. It is back box is silver gray, with a black band.

iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS

The back of this iPhone is curved and is made of plastic.

The back shell of the 3GS is brighter than the 3G. It is also available in white.

Both models are very similar to the iPhone 5c.

iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S

The iPhone 4 and iPhone 4s both have glass front and back, and their contour is stainless steel. They have a version in white and black.

If we focus on design, it is difficult to distinguish them. Their main differences are, therefore, technical. For example, the iPhone 4S marks the arrival of the Siri voice assistant.

The iPhone 4 has a storage space of 8, 16 or 32 GB, while the 4S also has a 64 GB version.

To check the capacity of your iPhone, go to Settings → General → Information. If it is greater than 32 GB, then it is the 4S model.

iPhone 5

The iPhone 5 is very similar to the two previous iPhone, except that it is a little bigger (4 inches). This size allows it to display six rows of application icons in addition to the Dock, compared to 5 for the iPhone 4s and previous models.

iPhone 5s

The iPhone 5s looks identical to the 5, but it differs thanks to the integration of the Touch ID sensor.

The Home button is a circle and no longer a square.

Also, the iPhone 5s is offered in Gold, Silver and Sidereal Gray, while the 5 is available in Black or White.

iPhone 5c

The shell of the iPhone 5c is curved and plastic.

It is also more significant than the 5s, and its shape is more square than the iPhone 3G and 3GS.

iPhone 6 and iPhone 6s

The design of the iPhone 6 the generation ( iPhone 6 and  6s ) has been completely redesigned. Its edges are curved, and their screen is more comprehensive (4.7 inches).

The On / Standby button is placed on the right side.

The iPhone 6s is available in Pink Gold, Silver, Gold, and Sidereal Gray. You can not go wrong because you will see the letter S engraved on the back.

iPhone 6 Plus and iPhone 6s Plus

Apple has expanded the screens of iPhone  6 Plus and  6s Plus, which are 5.5 inches (diagonal). There is room for six rows of icons, not to mention the Dock.

iPhone 7

The screen of the iPhone 7 is 4.7 inches (diagonal). It looks like the iPhone 6, but it is thinner. Besides, the horizontal line at the bottom and top of the back has been removed on this model.

A detail but that is important is that its lens slightly out of the hull.

The iPhone is available in 6 colors (Rose Gold, Gold, Silver, Black, Jet Black), and this is the first iPhone to have a red version.

iPhone 7 Plus

The iPhone 7 Plus is unsurprisingly similar to the iPhone 7, but more massive (5.5 inches). Its Start button is placed to the right of the device.

The iPhone 7 Plus is in the same colors as its predecessor.

The iPhone 8 is the same size as the iPhone 7. The screen and the back of this Apple smartphone are very resistant glass. Its frame is aluminum, and its edges are curved.

It has a memory of 64 GB or 256 GB. The iPhone 8 is sold in the colors Gold, Silver, Sidereal Gray or Red.

iPhone 8 Plus

The iPhone 8 Plus has a larger screen than the 8 (5.5 inches diagonally). The rest of its design, including colors, remains unchanged.

Its back is not aluminum, but glass and its storage options are 64 GB or 256 GB, against 32 GB, 128 GB, and 256 GB for the 7 Plus.

The significant difference is surely its dual wide-angle rear-facing camera with 12-megapixel telephoto.

If you still wonder which iPhone is in your hands, go to the General → Information → Model Name.

Its OLED Super Retina display has a body-to-screen ratio of 84.4% when the XS is 82.9%.

These two models still have some identical points, they offer three memory capacity options (64 GB, 256 GB, 512 GB), three colors (gold, sidereal gray, silver) and a second photosensor on the back, arranged vertically.
