How to disable the confirmation of reading?

WhatsApp automatically indicates each participant in a conversation that their message has been sent, received and read.

And this, thanks to a system of check marks appearing next to your message.

The gray checkmark confirms the sending of a message.
When a second gray checkmark appears, it indicates good reception.
Finally, when these two check marks turn blue, it means that your correspondent has read your message.

If you want to read your WhatsApp messages for any reason, follow these four techniques.

Download WhatsApp on your  Android  or  iOS.

Disable the Read Confirmations feature

If you do not want to notify your correspondent that you have read his message, you can disable the read confirmation option.

  • Open WhatsApp, tap the top three points on the left.
  • Follow the path: Settings  →  Account →  Privacy.
  • At the bottom, uncheck the Read Confirmations box.

Note that if you disable this option, you will not be notified if your message has been read.

Also, disabling read receipts only applies to discussions between two people, not to group conversations.

Activate airplane mode

Want to read your messages without the sender knowing and without having to turn off read receipts? Airplane mode is one of the alternatives.

As soon as you receive a WhatsApp message, a notification appears on your screen.
Before opening your message, activate airplane mode on your smartphone.

On your Android:

  • Since the home screen, slide your finger from the top to the bottom.
  • Then, press the icon in the shape of an airplane.
  • Or, go to  Settings  →  More →  activate airplane mode.

On your iPhone:

  • From the Home screen, slide your finger from the bottom to the top.
  • Then, tap the airplane icon.

The suspension of the internet connection makes it possible to block the servers of WhatsApp, which will not be able to detect the opening and the reading of the message.

  • Activate airplane mode.
  • Read your message, then quit the conversation.
  • From the DISC. [Ussions] tab, hold down your finger on the conversation you have just quit.
  • Tap the three points at the top right.
  • Select the Mark as an unread option.

  • Finally, disable Airplane mode.

Here, neither seen nor known, you read your WhatsApp message.

Note that this method has not been successful on all devices.

So for a surefire result, it is better to disable the Read Confirmations option, as previously explained, or try the following technique (dedicated to Android).

The WhatsApp Widget

This technique is only for Android users. With this one, you will not need to disable read confirmations or use airplane mode.

Simply add the WhatsApp widget (mini-application) to your home screen.

  • Go to your home screen.
  • Select an empty area on your screen, where there are no apps or other items, and keep your finger on it.
  • At the bottom of your screen, the various Android widgets are displayed.
  • Scroll to the right until you find the WhatsApp widget.
  • Select the mini-app and drag it to your home screen.
  • Finally, let go.

This is a simple and effective way to read discreetly, from your home screen, a message without the sender is notified.

However, you will not be able to see the gifs, photos or videos shared. For this, you need to open the message.

The notification bar

The last alternative would be to read your WhatsApp messages from the notifications bar, that is, as soon as you are notified of the receipt of a message.

However, you must be agile of your fingers. Indeed, trying to expand the notification bar, to read a long message, for example, you may open this message and thus confirm its reading.

As soon as you can read it without opening it, all you have to do is sweep the notification.
